Beth Kerr: Tell Your Kids, No Sleep, No Good Performance
Wellbeing consultant Beth Kerr highlights the importance of sleep for young footballers. She suggests parents help kids see the link between good sleep and their performance by having them rate their day and compare it to their sleep quality.
Beth explains that both sleep quantity and quality matter, with different sleep stages serving important functions like memory consolidation and tissue repair. She emphasises that kids need to experience the benefits themselves to truly value good sleep habits.
For older kids, Beth recommends sharing how sleep affects things they care about, like recovering faster from training or understanding game tactics better. This approach makes the importance of sleep more relevant to their football goals.
