Examples of Professional Players Journey

This document shares the stories of nine female professional footballers and the very different routes they each took into the pro game. Some came through one academy, some moved clubs several times, some went out on loan, and others spent time in college football in the USA or played in different countries before landing at their current clubs. Together, their journeys show that it is rarely a straight, simple path from academy to first team – positions change, contracts change and plans change – and that education and being open to new opportunities (like loans, overseas moves or university) can all play an important part along the way.

For parents, it is a reminder to prepare your daughter for twists and turns, not just a single “dream path”, and to keep talking about the many options she might have in football and beyond, even if things do not go exactly as first imagined.
