Beth Kerr: More Important Than Your Child’s Football Coach

Wellbeing consultant Beth Kerr shares some eye-opening advice for parents of young footballers. She reminds us that while coaches are crucial, they’re focused on football development, not parenting. As a parent, you’re the most important tool in your child’s football journey.

Beth emphasises the importance of looking after yourself first. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of matches and selections, but if you’re running on empty, you can’t support your child effectively. Find someone to talk to outside the football bubble, and make time for yourself.

She also encourages parents to focus on the present. It’s tempting to worry about next season or future prospects, but there’s value in appreciating today. As Beth quotes, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why they call it the present.”

With simple techniques and strategies this is an accessible conversation with invaluable takeaways!
