Chris Ramsey MBE: Reminder for Parents They are Being Watched Too

In this clip from the Real Sideline Expert series, Chris Ramsey, MBE, former Technical Director, Manager, Coach and Teacher, discusses parents’ often-overlooked role in their child’s academy journey. He confirms that parental behaviour can significantly impact a young player’s progression, especially if the child is not considered exceptional.

Chris explains that poor conduct from parents, such as sideline coaching or disrespectful interactions with coaches, can raise the performance bar for their child. However, he also acknowledges that some clubs may have taken advantage of parents’ fear of negatively influencing their child’s progress, leading to situations where parents remain silent when they should speak up. This insightful discussion highlights the complex interplay between parental involvement and a young player’s development in football academies.
