I think overall we’ve had a really positive experience, but recognise all the things you mention and much more.
My view I think is that there is a right team for every child, whatever their ability.
Some may be struggling, while some may be carrying their current team at some points. Friendships are probably number 1, but if those aren’t…

We have found it tricky too – though from the start have been clear to our son that whatever he does in football, its the schoolwork that comes first. Over time more and more football has added to the schedule, but its on that condition – i.e. he can do the football if he keeps up with / fulfils his potential at school. Worked for us so far…

Know this is a super basic Q, but my son is a 13YO GK who has had feedback that he’s getting close to the level required to trial for an academy.
My Q is what should we expect in terms of time commitment and extra training if he did join one?
